New Zealand electric motorcycle manufacturer FTN Motion has launched the Streetdog XR, a more powerful, elevated evolution of its original Streetdog, following a $2 million capital raise to accelerate the company’s growth.
They have taken customer feedback (including mine) and the XR features raised suspension, wider handlebars, increased ground clearance and a tasty powder coat finish, with a surfboard rack available as an add-on. Now I can’t surf but that’s pretty cool.
The new model is hand-built at the company’s Hamilton workshop and delivers that potent EV torque and a 85kph top speed – the first model was 50Kph. The XR replaces the Streetdog 80 and is launching at the introductory price of $9,990.
It promises to “liberate riders from congestion, fuel prices and emissions, while turning the commute into the best part of their day,” said Luke Sinclair, co-founder of FTN Motion.
FTN Motion is limiting the initial production run of the XR to a small number of launch units at the special launch price of $9,990 – with delivery from May 2026.
FTN Motion has also launched its next generation Streetdog 50 which features the same upgrades as the new XR. The 50 is now available for $8,990.
The $2M capital raise has enabled FTN Motion to accelerate its expansion into Australia, raise brand awareness, and build the best in class new model XR.
FTN tell me they are seeing strong demand for the XR, yet the initial production run is limited to a small number of bikes.
The Streetdog XR is powered by a rear hub motor with a removable battery that charges from any standard wall outlet. It features a 30L storage compartment, a PIN or tap-start system and an automatic, gear-free design for immediate acceleration and ease of use.
The XR will require a motorbike licence to drive and has a range of 60-80Km which can be doubled with a second battery.
I haven’t ridden one yet but I’m looking forward to it!
