Supercars are incredible machines, but they come with a dilemma: how do you choose just one? While various manufacturers offer subscription services that allow you to swap cars within their own brand stable, that only works if you want to stay loyal to a single badge.

But what if you want to try them all? Enter the collective subscription model—think of it as a timeshare for high-end automotive assets.

New Zealand’s MotorShare has brought this concept to the local supercar world, and M2 was fortunate enough to put their service to the test.

The Process: Click, Book, Drive

The user experience is seamless. After signing up and downloading their slick app, you can flick through a catalogue of high-performance vehicles to find your desired ride.

Booking is as simple as clicking a button for a day or a weekend. License checks are handled quietly in the background, though the team (led by Chris) is there to guide you if needed. Once booked, the Auckland crew handles everything to ensure the vehicle is prepped to perfection—cleaning, servicing, fueling, and maintenance are all taken care of.

You simply pick up the keys, drive your dream car for the booking period, and return it refilled.

The Experience: McLaren 650S

As an experiential writer, I had to see if the reality matched the promise. I downloaded the app, selected the McLaren 650S, and picked it up a few days later.

The process was effortless—suddenly, that car was mine. I spent the next couple of days taking it through hundreds of kilometers of winding roads, marveling at its exceptional performance (full review to come).

Why the Subscription Model Works

This model solves several problems for the modern enthusiast:

  • Capital Freedom: You don’t need to tie up massive amounts of capital in a car you might only drive occasionally. You simply pay a monthly fee for access.
  • Zero Admin: All the headaches of ownership are managed for you. Maintenance, servicing, and insurance are off your plate.
  • Flexibility: Use your days as you go or save them up for a longer booking.
  • Variety: It’s not just one car; it’s an expanding fleet. As more members join, more cars enter the collective.
  • Try Before You Commit: It is a brilliant way to “dip your toe” in the water and test various marques before committing to a purchase.

The Fleet

The team at MotorShare are clearly supercar aficionados. They have curated a beautiful, growing list of fabulous vehicles that covers everything from track weapons to luxury cruisers. At the time of writing, the stable includes:

Supercars

Ferrari 488, Lamborghini Huracán, McLaren 650S Coupe, Audi R8 V10, Chevrolet Corvette C8Porsche 911 & Cayman , Mercedes-AMG GT, GTS & C63S, Nissan GT-R R35 & Z NISMO, Rolls-Royce Ghost, Bentley Bentayga, The list goes on!

A huge thank you to MotorShare for providing the sublime McLaren 650S—a true supercar—for the
