The mind-bendingly good Corvette E-Ray marks a significant shift as the first all-wheel-drive Stingray. It pairs the mid-mounted 6.2L LT2 V8 engine, which sends 369kW and 637Nm to the 345mm rear tires, with an electric motor on the front axle. This front unit contributes 119kW and 169Nm, bringing the total output to 488kW and 806Nm.

I previously classified the C8 Stingray as a practical supercar. The E-Ray expands on this utility. It adopts the wider stance of the Z06 and features distinctive polished rims. Practicality remains high; the removable hardtop stores securely in the trunk for open-air driving. The cabin retains its driver-focused layout, equipped with a flat-bottom carbon steering wheel and supportive racing seats.

I knew the the car’s track competence, but public roads reveal its true capability – the E-Ray performs exceptionally well on winding backroads. Although performance hybrids prioritize speed over economy, the E-Ray remains efficient during standard driving. However, the performance is the primary focus. In Sport mode, the car recorded a 0 to 100 km/h time of 2.5 seconds, with Track mode offering faster responses. The large carbon ceramic brakes provide b stutaltantial stopping power without compromising low-speed driveability.

The electric front axle integrates smoothly, delivering immediate torque. The assistance becomes audible under heavy acceleration. Steering response is precise, and the all-wheel-drive system eliminates understeer or oversteer.

The E-Ray outperforms its siblings (and just about everything) due to the all-wheel-drive configuration. General Motors has produced a versatile machine that balances acceleration, handling, and daily usability – it really seems to have no downsides. Whether listening to the Bose audio or the V8 exhaust note, the driving experience is excellent. It is a difficult car to return.
