The BMW CE 04 looks like a Sci-Fi prop. It resembles a Transformer more than a traditional scooter. The design is unique and distinct from anything else on the road. Even hardened motorcyclists stop to stare.

Performance

This machine is a potent electric vehicle, not a typical scooter. It produces 42 horsepower and 62 Nm of torque – it hits the urban speed limit of 50 km/h in 2.6 seconds. This acceleration makes it one of the fastest vehicles in city traffic. At traffic lights, it leaves standard cars behind with ease. The top speed is electronically limited to 120 km/h. This is sufficient for the Auckland motorway network. The electric motor delivers instant torque with no clutch or gears to manage.

Range and Charging

BMW claims a range of 130 km. In real-world testing with the bike in “Dynamic” mode, the range sits around 100 km. This equates to approximately 1% battery usage per kilometer. “Eco” mode conserves energy, but “Dynamic” mode offers better performance. Charging is simple. The bike comes with a standard cable for domestic sockets, and the dedicated storage compartment holds it easily. A full charge takes approximately 4 hours and 20 minutes with the standard charger. The standard Type 2 socket allows use of public chargers or home wall boxes.

Handling and Ride

The handling is sharp for a scooter. The suspension offers good travel and remains compliant without feeling soft. It performs well with a pillion passenger. The bike stops and steers effectively, aided by high-quality Pirelli tires.

Practicality and Tech

The design balances form and function. A dedicated ventilated storage compartment holds a spare helmet or groceries. A separate compartment charges a cell phone.
The 10.25-inch TFT color display is larger than screens in many cars. It provides seamless phone connectivity and navigation instructions directly in the rider’s line of sight.

Conclusion

The BMW CE 04 is a genre-blender. It combines the reliability of a historic manufacturer with modern electric technology. It is a functional, fun, and capable machine that works as a serious urban commuter.
